October 4th

We are so grateful that we are able to spend another day with Jack. Unfortunately updating the blog has kept me a little too honest and I feel that under any other circumstances I would never be this honest about something with so many people. This morning we held Jack in our arms for the first time in six weeks. We felt that it may be our last. The fluid in his tissues has caused his chest wall to stiffen to the point that it became very difficult for the ventilator to fill his lungs. As we held him he slowly started to open up and the rocking in the chair caused him to drain over 100 cc's of fluid out of his chest tubes in less than 4 hours. He also started to pee and by the time we were done he had 25 cc's of the liquid gold in the tube. That was over a 7 hour period but it felt good to have that much in the tube at the same time. Since then his blood pressure has been outstanding and they have weened down some of the medications. It has been one of the most difficult days of our lives. We are strengthened by all of your prayers.

It sounds like being able to hold him today helped everyone. You both are so amazing and your strength and love is inspiring. I am sorry that you have this trial to go through. We will continue praying.

I do not know your family, but I found your Blog and have been praying for your little Jack. My son Jacob was born in April and we were surprised to learn he had TGA. He had his switch operation at 5 days old at PCMC. I will continue to pray for your family. Also, there is a parent support group for CHD families, if we can do anything for you please let us know: IntermountainHealingHearts@yahoogroups.com

I am so glad that they let you hold Jack again, sounds like the touch of Mom and Dad is really helping him. I hope they will continue to let him be a baby and be held by his parents - no medicine can compare to the loving arms of a parent. We continue to pray for Jack and for you guys. Bobby & Jen

My name is Brynn, I've been in and out of the PICU the last little while with my baby son attached to my front and carrying his O2.. We have been by to see baby Ian. OUr son is HLHS and is now waiting for the Glenn because of complications with his only functioning ventrical.... Anyway... I ran into your blog and wanted you to know that our family is thinking about baby Jack. We hope for the very best and being at the bottom of the ladder only means we can start climbing back up.... We will pray for him and you and your sweet hubby.... Let us know if you need a visit from about 20 people who have been there and will bring treats and support.....or if you would just like to spend time with your baby, we will cheer him on and pray he gets better....

Darren and Sarah

I know that this is a very private time for you so I hope you won't mind a little note from me. I work with Janet on the 'unit' and she is a very good friend. Darren, I thank you for taking the time to write your wonderful heartfelt notes on Jack's blog. I have enjoyed reading them to see how your little boy is doing each day. You and Sarah are amazing parents and you have an amazing little boy who has captured many hearts. You are always in my prayers and thoughts.
