September 5th

Well, today Jack joined the ranks of both his Grandmother's... he received his first dose of Ativan. For all those who are already wondering, no we won't be taking a prescription home with us. The doctors say Jack has had enough narcotics, so they are using other medications to help him stay comfortable. It appears as though he is finally acting like a normal baby. We used to be so concerned when he would cry because we knew he was experiencing a lot of pain; now he seems quite comfortable without the help of the Fentanyl and cries here and there like all babies do. The doctors have decided to try and take out the breathing tube and see how he does (this may take up to a week to wean him off), metering his ability to breathe on his own will determine how soon he will need the surgery to correct the vascular ring. If he does well on his own they may opt to wait six weeks in order for him to be bigger and stronger before they operate. If not they will do it sooner depending on the need. Hopefully this will be the end of the diagnoses and Jack can get on the mend for the last time.
